Memorabilia

Looking Back At 40 Years

Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end!
Moon Walk, Woodstock
Beatles, Stones
Stop the clock!

First cars ~ drive-in cruising
First loves ~  egos bruising
No cells, no CD's, no t.v. remotes
No internet, no e-mails, we typed shorthand notes!

We waved our flags for our causes ~
They heard our "call for peace" cry
Our anthems rocked with thundering protest
Beyond the halls we walked at NEHI

Through each passing season of life's scattered rhyme
We felt the gulf breezes blowing
The waves ebbing and flowing
Beckoning us back ~ to "once upon a time"

We called upon sentimental memories
We gathered to talk about the old and the new
The weddings and divorces ~ yes, there were a few!

The passing of family
The passing of friend
Ears to listen
Shoulders to lend

"Junque in the trunque" and grey in our hair
We looked in the mirror ~ and tried not to glare!
Shared our joy and sorrow
Our bright hopes for tomorrow

We bragged we were blessed with kids and cute grands
We spoke of "love at first sight" and those secretive "one night stands"

We talked of "close calls", the "then" ~ and the "now"
We survived our escapades  ~ But don't ask us "how!?"

A few life lessons learned along the way
Live, Love, and Laugh like there's no tomorrow!
Dance as if no one is watching!
And pay it forward when you borrow!

40 years later, we meet again today ~
It's time to revisit ~ and time to play
Whether united by destiny, design, or sheer fate ~
Life's pretty great in "The Sunshine State"!

And when it's time to bid adieu
This is what is wished for you:

May the good Lord be with you
Down every road you roam
May sunshine and happiness surround you
When you're near ~ or far away from home

May good fortune be with you
And your guiding light be strong
And in our hearts
You will always belong ~
Forever Young!
